Rangamati, Nov 25 (V7N) – A complete shutdown continued for the second consecutive day at the Rangamati Hill District Council as students and civic groups protested alleged quota discrimination, recruitment corruption, and exam question fraud in primary school teacher appointments. The program is being carried out by the Anti-Quota Unity Alliance, general students, and the Conscious Citizens' Committee. The main gate of the district council has remained closed due to the shutdown.
The protestors allege widespread irregularities in the recruitment process, including quota mismanagement, financial transactions for job placements, manipulation in question papers, and tampering with results. Demonstrators gathered at the council’s main gate from Tuesday morning, hanging banners and staging a sit-in, while police maintained a strict alert to prevent unrest.
Protesters are demanding recruitment under the latest circular issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, which mandates 93 percent merit-based appointments and 7 percent quota allocation. In response to escalating demonstrations, the Rangamati Hill District Council has postponed the recruitment test for the fourth time.
Leaders of the movement said their six-point demand must be met and that the primary teacher recruitment exam under the council must be conducted within the ongoing month of November. They warned that failure to comply would lead to tougher programs, including blockades and general strikes. Protesters also stated that they have not yet received any formal assurance from the administration.
The shutdown has disrupted council operations for a second day and heightened public anxiety across the town, with many essential services affected.
Meanwhile, the Hill District Council authorities stated that conflicting demands were submitted by two separate groups. The council has forwarded all documents to the relevant ministries and will finalize recruitment decisions pending official guidance.
