Jhalokathi, Nov 27 (V7N) – Dr Faizul Haque, who recently resigned from the BNP’s Malaysia chapter as Assistant Secretary for Social Welfare Affairs, has received the final nomination from Jamaat-e-Islami to contest the upcoming national parliamentary election from the Jhalokathi-1 (Rajapur–Kathalia) constituency. The confirmation came from district Jamaat Amir Advocate Hafizur Rahman.

Dr Haque, the grandson of the revered Islamic scholar Oliye Kamel Hazrat Qayed Saheb (Rh.), was born on February 1, 1987, in a respected Muslim family in Paschim Charakhali village under Rajapur upazila of Jhalokathi. He is the youngest son of noted Islamic scholar Maulana Muzammilul Haque Rajapuri. Among four brothers and two sisters, he is the youngest. His elder brothers include Principal Muhammad Saiful Haque, former Chairman and Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Shahidul Haque of the Department of Journalism at the University of Chattogram, and Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Aminul Haque of the International Islamic University Chattogram.

Despite coming from a family dominated by academics, principals, and researchers, Dr Haque chose a political path driven by his commitment to public service. He completed his BA (Honours) and MA in History from the University of Chattogram, earned his PhD from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2019, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in 2023. In 2013, he married Kazi Afifa Khatun from Jhenaidah.

For the past 16 years, Dr Haque has been an outspoken voice against injustice, discrimination, and political repression, frequently engaging in online talk shows, live discussions, and opinion writing. He also played a role in shaping public opinion abroad during the “July Movement.” On July 12, he resigned from the BNP and announced his decision to contest the election as an independent candidate.

Speaking about his nomination, Dr Haque said he is honored to receive the electoral symbol of the weighing scale. He expressed confidence that Jamaat-e-Islami’s leadership, under Dr Shafiqur Rahman, would play a pivotal role in the upcoming national election and future governance. He noted that people in the Jhalokathi-1 constituency are eager to vote for change, adding that voters from all political backgrounds have shown a positive attitude toward supporting the weighing-scale symbol.

Dr Haque conveyed his gratitude to Jamaat chief Dr Shafiqur Rahman for his encouragement during difficult times and for granting him the opportunity to contest the election. He also thanked the leaders of various Islamic institutions, scholars, writers, journalists, farmers, and workers for their support and expressed optimism about achieving a historic electoral outcome.
