DHAKA, Feb 12 (V7N) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Jamaat-led alliance candidate for Dhaka-11 constituency Nahid Islam cast his vote early this morning and called upon citizens to participate in the electoral process.
He voted at the A K M Rahmatullah University College polling centre in Badda after arriving at the centre around 7:50 am.
Speaking to reporters after casting his ballot, Nahid said, “I have cast my very first vote without any interruption. I urge all my countrymen to vote for the restoration of democracy.”
Responding to another query, he acknowledged reports of isolated incidents across the country the previous night. “Some untoward incidents took place last night across the country. Some people were trying to create a tense environment. We are not focusing on those incidents that much because we don't want any altercation. We want people to come and vote,” he said.
“We expect that the whole voting process will be transparent and fair,” he added.
Nahid also expressed confidence that the 11-party alliance would form the government if the election is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
When asked whether he was prepared to accept the outcome of the election, he replied, “If the election is fair and transparent, we are ready to accept whatever people decide for us. But the election must be fair.”
