Jahangir Kabir, general secretary of Barguna District unit of Awami League, was detained by a police team from Dhaka.

He was taken into custody on charges of conspiracy to create unrest in Barguna, Barguna Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Mizanur Rahman confirmed.

According to police sources, a recent phone conversation between Jahangir Kabir and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina went viral on social media.

Jahangir was taken into custody from his residence in the Amtala area of Barguna Municipality at around 6am on Wednesday.

On Monday, Jahangir Kabir had a phone conversation with Sheikh Hasina, president of Awami League.

In the three-minute phone call that went viral on Facebook, Sheikh Hasina instructed Jahangir to conduct party activities with discipline and to observe Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s assassination on August 15 appropriately.

Jahangir reassured her, saying: "Apa, don't worry. If you worry, we become weak. We remain strong."

In response, Sheikh Hasina said: "Why would I worry? I'm not afraid. You've seen how they've hung and beaten our police force. They've attacked our workers, even disguised in burqas. This country gained independence through bloodshed. Stay as you are."

Regarding the matter, OC KM Mizanur Rahman said: "He was held on charges of conspiring to cause unrest after a phone conversation with former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. A police team from Dhaka came and took him into custody, and he has been brought to Dhaka."
