Rajshahi, Aug 27 (V7N) - Although India has opened all the gates of the Farakka Dam, there has been no rise in the Padma River water level over the past 15 hours. The Farakka Dam, which has 109 gates on the Ganges River, was fully opened yesterday, Monday. This news caused significant alarm among residents in the Rajshahi region. Prior to the gate openings, the Padma River's water level was rising, but it appears that after 9 PM yesterday, the level did not increase further, according to local residents.
 
At the Borkuti point in Rajshahi city, the critical level for the Padma River is 18.05 meters. On Monday at 6 AM, the water level was 16.27 meters, rising slightly to 16.30 meters by 3 PM. This level remained stable through this morning.
 
In Sarada, Charghat upazila, about 20 kilometers from Rajshahi city, the danger level is 16.92 meters. The water level was recorded at 15.05 meters at 6 AM on Monday and increased slightly to 15.06 meters by both 9 AM and 3 PM. At the Borkuti point in Rajshahi, the water level is currently 1.75 meters below the danger mark, and this has not changed since this morning.
 
Rizul Karim, Executive Engineer of the Northern Regional Water Measurement Division, explained, “We generally provide a 10-day forecast for river water levels. The Padma River is not expected to exceed the danger level in the next 10 days. However, since the water level has been rising since Sunday afternoon, the true extent of the situation will become clearer in the next 2-3 days.”
