The Bangladesh Girl's Mathematics Team showcased exceptional talent and determination at the 13th European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) 2024, held in Tskaltubo, Georgia, from April 11 to 17. Among 212 participants from 55 countries, the team secured one Bronze medal and three Honorable Mentions, bolstering Bangladesh's reputation in the global mathematics community.
Led by Atonu Roy Chowdhury and Ipshita Bonhi Upoma, the team excelled in number theory and algebra, areas of focus in this year's competition. Despite initial visa challenges, strategic support from coach Dr Mahbub Majumdar and the efforts of Dr Sadia Hamid Kazi ensured the team's participation and success.
Backed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and sponsored by Abdul Monem Ltd and RoseLeemon Credit Reports and Collections Ltd, the team demonstrated resilience and dedication, garnering praise from professors Yasmeen Haq and Muhammed Zafar Iqbal.
Reflecting on the competition, Ipshita Bonhi Upoma lauded the team's enthusiasm and joy, highlighting their significant improvements in mathematical capabilities. The journey to EGMO began with the Bangladesh National Girls’ Mathematics Olympiad in 2023, underscoring the country's commitment to nurturing female mathematicians.
Since their debut in 2021, Bangladesh has accumulated an impressive track record at EGMO, showcasing individual brilliance and the nation's dedication to excellence in mathematics. The Gonitkonya-Bangladesh Girls' Mathematics Foundation remains committed to empowering girls in mathematics, inspired by the team's ongoing success.
The triumph at EGMO 2024 stands as a testament to the potential and intellectual prowess of Bangladesh's young mathematicians.
