Madhupur, Sep 11 (V7N) - On February 3, 2010, Abu Bakar, an independent student at Dhaka University, was violently murdered during a clash between two factions of the student wing of the ruling party.

In response, a human chain and protest march were held at Madhupur bus stand on Wednesday, September 11, organized by teachers, students, and members of the community, calling for a reinvestigation and justice for the murder.

The demonstration took place at 11 AM at Ananas Square, Madhupur bus stand, and was arranged by the Shahid Abu Bakar Smriti Sangh of Golabari Madhupur.

Abu Bakar Siddique, a third-year student in the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Dhaka University, was severely injured in a crossfire between two student factions at Sir AF Rahman Hall on February 2, 2010. He fought for his life for 24 hours before dying at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on February 3.

The protest featured speeches from Abu Bakar’s father Rustam Ali, his elder brother Abbas Ali, younger brother Omar Faruk, Nitai Chandra Kar (principal of Shahid Smriti High School), former principal Bazlur Rashid Khan Chunnu, former principal of Madhupur Government College Montaz Ali, Abu Bakar's friend Shafiqul Islam Shuvo, businessman Anwar Hossain, and student activists Md. Speakers criticized the previous Awami government's influence, which they claimed led to delays and prevented the plaintiffs from appealing, resulting in the acquittal of all accused. They called for the cancellation of the unjust verdict and a new trial to impose the death penalty on those convicted.

The protest saw active participation from various educational institutions and members of the public.
