Dhaka, Jan 05 (V7N) — Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq-e-Azam on Sunday said that the mass uprising of July 2024 has created a unique and unprecedented opportunity to serve the country selflessly, a chance that doesn't come often.

"The martyrs, through their sacrifices, have entrusted us with the responsibility to serve the nation selflessly. Therefore, we must carry out this duty with courage and without delay, to honor our valor and dignity," he said.

The adviser made these remarks while addressing a workshop on the Employment Generation Programme for the Poorest (EGPP) in Cox’s Bazar district, held at a hotel in the capital.

He said that EGPP is a crucial initiative aimed at assisting the extreme poor, providing them with financial support that plays a significant role in their social uplift and creating livelihood opportunities.

Referring to the influx of displaced Myanmar nationals in Cox's Bazar, the adviser called it a major challenge for the region, saying that it has caused severe social and financial damage to the local population, affecting their daily lives.

Given this situation, he added, the EGPP program in Cox's Bazar is playing a vital role in generating employment opportunities, alleviating poverty, and improving the livelihoods of local residents.
