Tongi, Feb 2 (V7N) – The first phase of the Bishwa Ijtema ended with the final prayer on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi, but a drone incident caused panic among the devotees, resulting in 64 injuries.
Drone Incident During Final Prayer
- At 9:33 am on Sunday (February 2), a drone was seen flying above the gathering of devotees during the final prayer, led by Maulana Zubair Ahmed.
- The drone crashed into a balloon near the Tongi Station Road area, creating a loud noise that led to panic among the participants.
Panic and Stampede
- As the panic spread, many devotees began to run in fear, leading to a stampede.
- 64 devotees were injured in the incident and were rescued and treated at Tongi Government Hospital and local private hospitals.
Investigation Underway
- Tongi East Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Faridul Islam explained that the drone’s charge likely ran out, causing it to crash near Gate No. 2.
- The police are currently investigating the cause of the panic and the events surrounding the drone crash.
The Bishwa Ijtema, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, continues to draw significant attention and participation, despite the chaotic incident that occurred during the final prayer.
