Dhaka, Mar 23 (V7N) – The Forest Department is making all-out efforts to contain a fire that broke out Saturday afternoon in the Kalam Teji area under the Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans East Forest Division.

Upon receiving the news, the divisional forest officer, the Chandpai range officer, and the assistant conservator of forests rushed to the scene.

Firefighting efforts were swiftly launched with the support of Forest Department personnel, members of the Village Conservation Forum, the Village Tiger Response Team, the Community Patrol Group, and over a hundred volunteers.

To prevent the fire from spreading, a fire line was established around the affected area.

Due to the fire site being located approximately three kilometres inland from the nearest river or canal, direct water supply has been a challenge.

However, the fire is currently confined to the forest floor and has not reached the upper canopy.

The Forest Department’s fire engine is capable of supplying water up to one kilometre, and efforts are ongoing with the Fire Service to transport water to the fire site.

This initiative has already yielded positive results, confirmed the Forest Department.

The Forest Department remains optimistic that, with the collective efforts of all involved, the blaze will be fully contained by Saturday night.
