Dhaka, Oct 11 (V7N): Zainul Abedin Farroque, a member of the BNP Chairperson's advisory council, has called on the government to release a white paper detailing individuals who fled Bangladesh following the student-led mass uprising.
Farroque specifically demanded explanations on how those responsible for the deaths of many young men managed to escape to India. Speaking at a rally, he highlighted recent telephonic conversations involving deposed leader Sheikh Hasina that went viral, in which she discussed plans to return to Bangladesh from India.
Farroque emphasized that it would not be easy for Sheikh Hasina to re-enter the country, noting that the borders are now secured by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) under the interim government of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, not the Awami League.
He accused India of attempting to dominate Bangladesh with the help of Sheikh Hasina but noted that the people of Bangladesh, through years of struggle and student-led revolution, managed to oust the Awami League. He stressed the importance of restoring democracy and ensuring that future elections are conducted fairly, not during the night as was previously alleged.
The rally, organized by the Jatiotabadi Ganatantrik Party in front of the National Press Club, also demanded the withdrawal of false cases filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, and other opposition leaders and activists.
Farroque reaffirmed that the current interim government was established to uphold the constitution, free from the influence of the Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League. He called for a free and fair election where citizens can exercise their voting rights without fear.
Additionally, Farroque urged the interim government to announce a date for the next national election soon, reflecting the people's expectations. He also demanded the immediate withdrawal of 4 million cases against BNP and opposition party members, questioning why these cases had not yet been dismissed despite presidential orders.
