Dhaka, Nov 16 (V7N)- BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi emphasized today the urgent need for a national election to restore democracy in Bangladesh, asserting that the country’s democratic rights had been stripped away by the ousted Awami League government.

Speaking at a meeting in Barisal’s Bakerganj upazila, organized for the distribution of gifts to the families of July uprising martyrs, Rizvi stated, “To re-establish democracy, the people’s right to vote must be guaranteed through free and fair elections.”

Criticism of Awami League's Governance
Rizvi accused the Awami League of exploiting the nation’s resources, saying, “The Awami League was like an African catfish; it would consume anything it could get.” He further claimed that the ruling party had smuggled Tk17 lakh crore out of the Tk18.6 lakh crore Bangladesh received from abroad.

He also criticized former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, accusing her of resorting to violence to maintain power, alleging that thousands had been killed during her tenure.

Vigilance Against Fascism
Rizvi called on the public to remain vigilant to prevent the return of “fascist” forces to power.
