Dhaka, Nov 19 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has acknowledged the party's prolonged struggle against the Awami League government while emphasising the pivotal role of student movements in pushing for change. Speaking at a discussion meeting organised by the Professional Council at the National Press Club on Tuesday, he criticised the ruling party for eroding the country's institutions and achievements over the past 15 years.

“The students have achieved what seemed impossible at the last moment,” he said, commending their efforts in the ongoing movement. He also called for urgent reforms to the Election Commission and demanded that national elections be held promptly to ensure a democratic and stable environment.

Fakhrul reiterated BNP’s commitment to forming a national government inclusive of all political parties if elected, stating that major reforms and restructuring would be handled by such a coalition. “It is critical to focus on reforms to pave the way for a truly elected government,” he added.

The event was held to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day, during which the BNP leader renewed his party's vow to restore democratic norms and constitutional governance in the country.
