Dhaka, Nov 21 (V7N) – Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia made her first public appearance in six years by attending the Armed Forces Day program held at Senakunj in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday. This marks her first participation in the event since 2012, a significant moment for the veteran leader.
Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus expressed his appreciation for Khaleda Zia’s presence, saying, "Begum Khaleda Zia, the three-time elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh, is present among us today. She has not had the opportunity to participate in this program for a decade. Today she has got the opportunity. We are proud that we have been able to give her this opportunity."
Dr. Yunus also wished the BNP Chairperson good health and thanked her for attending the program, which celebrates the contributions of Bangladesh's armed forces.
Following the formal speeches, Dr. Yunus was seen conversing with Khaleda Zia, with the two leaders engaging in a cordial discussion for an extended period, signaling a significant political moment.
This marks Khaleda Zia’s first public appearance since 2018, during which she had been largely absent from the political scene due to health issues and legal battles. Her last visit to Senakunj was in 2012, although she declined an invitation in 2013.
Khaleda Zia's attendance at the program underscores her continued significance in Bangladesh's political landscape and her commitment to the nation’s commemorative events.
