Dhaka, Dec 08 (V7N) – Police halted a protest march and memorandum submission program by BNP-affiliated groups, including Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Swecchasebak Dal, as they advanced toward the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
The march was stopped at Rampura Bridge around 12:35 p.m. on Sunday, with police setting up barricades to prevent further progress.
Earlier, the march commenced at 11:30 a.m. from BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka. Thousands of leaders and activists from across the capital participated, chanting anti-India slogans and demanding the removal of Sheikh Hasina. They also vowed to resist any perceived conspiracies by India regarding her political future.
Before the march began, a brief rally was held, where BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi addressed the participants as the chief guest.
The protest follows an incident on December 2, when members of the Hindu Sangarsha Samiti vandalized the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. Protesters removed and burned the Bangladesh national flag during demonstrations against the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson of the Sommilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote.
Video footage from the incident showed protesters tearing down and setting fire to the flag, sparking widespread outrage.
