Dhaka, Apr 17 (V7N) – A high-level delegation of the BNP held a meeting with the National Consensus Commission on Thursday morning to discuss the reform proposals submitted by various commissions formed under the interim government led by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

The meeting took place at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, signaling a major step toward consensus-building on the future governance structure of the country.

The BNP’s five-member delegation included:

  • Barrister Jamiruddin Sarkar, Standing Committee Member

  • Nazrul Islam Khan, Standing Committee Member

  • Salahuddin Ahmed, Standing Committee Member

  • Ismail Zabiullah, BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member

  • Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Former General Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association

The National Consensus Commission was represented by:

  • Badiul Alam Majumder, Civil society representative

This dialogue follows the formation of 11 commissions in two phases after the removal of the Awami League government on August 5, aimed at ushering in political, administrative, electoral, and judicial reforms. The commissions have already submitted a series of draft recommendations, which are now under review through stakeholder consultations.

BNP leaders expressed their views on critical areas such as the electoral framework, decentralization of power, judicial independence, and transparency in governance during the meeting. The Consensus Commission, in turn, is expected to incorporate feedback from all major political parties before finalizing its recommendations.

More meetings with other political stakeholders are expected in the coming days.
