Dhaka, May 13 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has voiced strong concerns over the government's lack of transparency regarding the proposed humanitarian corridor, warning that it could lead Bangladesh into unintended military conflict.
Speaking at a roundtable discussion held at the National Press Club on Tuesday (May 13), Hafiz Uddin said, “The people and political parties remain in the dark about the nature and implications of this humanitarian corridor. We fear that such arrangements may drag us into a war.”
He emphasized the need for national unity and urged all parties to avoid entanglement in any form of aggression. He also criticized the interim government, claiming it lacks public support. “This is a weak government. The people are not behind it,” he added.
Hafiz Uddin also alleged that despite repeated calls by political parties, the government has yet to move toward holding elections, raising concerns over the state of democracy in the country.
Meanwhile, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi launched a sharp attack on the river agreement signed by the previous Sheikh Hasina government with India, blaming it for the environmental disasters currently facing Bangladesh.
“Despite knowing the environmental consequences, the government signed a river deal that has brought severe natural calamities to the country,” Rizvi said.
The roundtable brought together senior opposition leaders to voice mounting dissatisfaction over key national and regional policies, as the country grapples with political uncertainty and environmental crises.
