DHAKA, May 22 (V7N) – Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has termed the High Court's decision to dismiss the writ petition against Ishraq Hossain's oath as Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor a "victory for the people."

Speaking to the media over the telephone from Bangkok, Thailand, where he is undergoing medical treatment, the BNP Secretary General expressed his reaction after the High Court's ruling on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The High Court had dismissed the writ petition that sought to prevent Ishraq Hossain from being administered the oath as DSCC mayor.

Mirza Fakhrul urged the Local Government Ministry to take immediate action to administer the oath to BNP leader Ishraq Hossain. "I hope that they will quickly arrange for Ishraq Hossain's oath and try to ease the situation without creating any further problems in the ministry," he stated.

Furthermore, the BNP Secretary General appealed to the leaders and activists who have been protesting in recent days over the issue of Ishraq Hossain taking the oath, urging them to refrain from blocking roads.

It is noteworthy that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir traveled to Bangkok on May 14 for eye surgery. He successfully underwent surgery on his left eye at Bangkok's Rutnin Eye Hospital the following day and is currently under close medical observation at the hospital.
