Moulvibazar, June 7 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has emphasized the importance of resolving the ongoing national crisis through free, fair, and meaningful elections. Speaking to reporters after offering Eid-ul-Azha prayers at Tulapur in Kulaura, Moulvibazar on Saturday morning, he called for comprehensive reforms to restore public confidence in the electoral process.
Dr. Rahman stated, “The nation does not want any more meaningless elections. If justice, reforms, the July Declaration, and a level playing field for voters are not ensured, then the upcoming elections will not reflect the people's will.”
He strongly criticized the previous national polls, claiming that the people were deprived of their voting rights in three consecutive elections. “This time, the new generation—especially the youth—must be given the opportunity to cast their votes in a free and impartial environment,” he added.
The Jamaat chief also expressed optimism about the commitments made by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who recently announced that the national elections will be held during the first half of April 2026. Dr. Rahman urged the interim government to follow through on its assurances and take concrete steps toward ensuring a credible electoral process.
Political analysts view Dr. Rahman's comments as a continuation of growing demands from various political parties for electoral reforms, ahead of the long-anticipated national polls.
