Dhaka, June 7 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Chief Advisor’s decision to hold national elections in the first half of April 2026, calling it an ill-considered move. Speaking on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha at Chandrima Udyan, where he paid tribute to the tomb of the party's founder, former President Ziaur Rahman, Mirza Fakhrul insisted that elections in December this year would be more auspicious and beneficial for the nation.
He stated that the BNP had consistently demanded elections to be held in December, but these expectations have not been fulfilled. Mirza Fakhrul also urged the government to provide a clear election roadmap that takes into account challenges such as the weather conditions, including heat and rain.
Reflecting on the spirit of Eid-ul-Azha, he emphasized his commitment to stand with the people in honoring the glory of sacrifice.
Senior joint secretary general Rizvi Ahmed, members of the BNP standing committee, and other high-level party leaders and activists were present during the event.
