Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader disclosed that the government is currently investigating potential connections between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and market syndicates.
During a meeting at the Awami League's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, voiced concerns over the possibility of the BNP attempting to disrupt the administration and impede the government's progress through syndicate activities during Ramadan.
Addressing the surge in commodity prices, Quader emphasized the government's commitment, under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership, to stabilize prices and ensure affordability for the general public.
Reflecting on his recent visit to Singapore, where he observed similar price increases, Quader highlighted the global challenge of rising gas, energy, and commodity prices, noting its impact on countries worldwide, including America and Europe.
Discussing recent events, Quader assured that the government is actively engaged in efforts to rescue a Bangladesh-flagged ship seized by pirates, emphasizing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' proactive role in the rescue operation.
Responding to queries about the potential repercussions of Dr. Yunus's legal issues on US relations, Quader underscored Bangladesh's adherence to its own laws and emphasized that legal proceedings against individuals are conducted impartially.
Regarding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's request for medical treatment abroad, Quader emphasized the government's consideration of the request's rationale, refuting claims of indifference and highlighting the option for treatment within the country.
Furthermore, Quader criticized the BNP's stance, highlighting their lack of legal action regarding the caretaker government issue and acknowledging the government's accommodation of Khaleda Zia's medical needs.
