Dhaka, Sep 28 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman extended his greetings to the Hindu community in Bangladesh and abroad on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja, calling for peaceful celebration and urging authorities to guard communal harmony.

In a message published on social media on Sunday, Tarique lauded the nation’s tradition of interfaith friendship and urged the Hindu community to celebrate peacefully while spreading messages of amity and harmony. He warned against any attempts to disturb communal peace and appealed to law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant against actions that could undermine security during the festival.

“Our state and constitution guarantee the security of every person, regardless of party, creed, religion, or caste. It is the responsibility of the state to provide security to every citizen of Bangladesh,” he said in the message.

Quoting a hadith to emphasize the importance of protecting minorities, Tarique added, “Whoever tortures a non‑Muslim who is protected by the state or violates his rights, I will fight against that person on the Day of Judgment.”

He also cautioned against attempts by elements he described as the “fascist regime” to disrupt communal harmony, stressing that vigilance is essential to ensure the festival proceeds peacefully.
