Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said the people of Bangladesh are now election-oriented and will politically reject those who try to obstruct the voting process.
He made the remarks after paying tribute at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan on Tuesday, marking the founding anniversary of the BNP’s Ulama Party.
Salahuddin stressed that the BNP does not want religion-based divisions in politics. “BNP does politics by uniting people of all religions and communities. Our aim is to fully establish the right to vote in a fair and democratic manner,” he said, calling on all political parties to work together by removing divisions.
He noted that potential candidates have already begun public outreach as part of election preparations. “If any party wants to obstruct the election, the people will identify them and reject them politically. The attempt to create obstacles in the country’s democratic process is already visible. The people will resist any conspiracies by domestic and foreign forces,” Salahuddin warned.
Criticizing the proportional representation (PR) system, he added that it always results in a hung parliament and instability. “The people of the country are against the PR system,” he said.
