Dhaka, Oct 07 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged that the demands of private teachers will be fulfilled according to the state’s financial capacity if his party comes to power. He also called upon teachers across the country to extend their support and cooperation to the BNP in the upcoming national elections.

Tarique Rahman made the remarks in a virtual address to a teachers’ rally organized by the Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Tuesday (October 7).

Thousands of teachers and education employees from across the country attended the gathering, raising four key demands—including increasing the retirement age to 65 and nationalizing the jobs of teachers and employees in private educational institutions.

In his speech, Tarique Rahman emphasized the importance of learning from the nation’s positive past experiences while avoiding negative ones.

“As an influential state, we must be established on merit, thought, and knowledge. To ensure teachers’ dignity in both the state and society, their financial security must be guaranteed,” he said.

He also urged teachers to play an active role in combating corruption and building an ethical, knowledge-based society.

Highlighting the need for comprehensive reforms in the education sector, Tarique Rahman announced plans to form a national education reform commission if BNP assumes power.

The BNP leader further proposed that the government should issue an ordinance allowing one teacher each from primary and secondary schools to be invited to attend major state events, including Independence Day and Victory Day celebrations.
