Dhaka, Oct 24 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that the party will give the green light to its single candidates in 200 constituencies within this month to allow them to prepare for the upcoming national election. He made the remarks during a briefing at his residence on Friday afternoon.
Salahuddin Ahmed criticized the recent RPO amendment, which requires candidates from alliances to contest under their own party symbols, saying it discourages smaller parties from forming alliances. He confirmed that BNP will send a letter objecting to the amendment and called for a fair reconsideration.
Regarding alliances, Salahuddin Ahmed said BNP is in the process of forming a grand alliance and has ongoing political contacts with the National Citizens Party (NCP). However, he noted that the final decision on the alliance has not yet been made.
He also mentioned that the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, is expected to return to Bangladesh by next November.
