Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N)- BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has emphasized the need for a new economic model in Bangladesh, stating that for the past one and a half decades, the economy has not benefited everyone, with a small group controlling most resources.
He made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Economic Reform Summit’ in Dhaka on Monday (October 27).
Chowdhury highlighted the importance of ensuring the independence of Bangladesh Bank for good governance in the financial sector and called for reducing bureaucratic control to boost efficiency.
Business leaders at the summit noted that increasing private sector production and controlling inflation are among the country’s biggest challenges. They warned that without increased investment, employment will decline, leading to economic instability.
The summit also urged the government to ease financial policies and strengthen institutional capacity, addressing capital shortages, weak infrastructure, and policy gaps. Participants noted that political uncertainty hampers economic growth, while credit crises for small and medium enterprises, expensive loans, and high land rents are making many businesses unviable.
