Dhaka, Nov 11 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that several political parties are creating new and unreasonable issues beyond the framework of the July National Charter. He warned that there is no legal scope to implement the Charter without an ordinance from the President, and any government order in this regard “will not carry the weight of law.”
He made the remarks at a press conference of the BNP Standing Committee held at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Tuesday (November 11).
At the same event, BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain criticized statements made by several government advisors, saying they were “misleading” and “ignored the decisions made by the consensus commission.”
In an official statement, the BNP leadership said that if the government issues any decision beyond the points agreed upon in the July National Charter, no signatory party will be bound to accept it. The responsibility for any resulting political crisis, they added, will rest entirely on the government.
Party leaders also alleged that those unable to participate in the upcoming elections are “creating unrest in various ways” to disrupt the political process.
