Dhaka, Nov 22 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has described the Awami League as a “mafia organization” rather than a political party, alleging that it celebrated violations of the constitution while in parliament.
He made the remarks to reporters at the National Shaheed Minar on Saturday.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, “Even though the Awami League in Bangladesh has died, it was buried in India. Their political grave must be sealed. If democracy does not return, fascism may rise again.”
He emphasized that democratic practice requires that no party’s activities be obstructed, adding, “Political practice must be carried out in a way that fulfills the aspirations of the martyrs of July.”
Regarding Sheikh Hasina’s verdict, he said, “The verdict has been delivered while upholding the expectations of the people and international standards. It will be implemented. Those who are fascists will have to face this situation.”
Salahuddin Ahmed also recalled the student uprising, noting, “It did not happen in just 36 days. Those who want to exploit the spirit of ’24’ for political business should learn from the Awami League’s failures.”
He questioned how those who opposed the aspirations of 1947 and 1971 could fulfill the people’s hopes and urged Jamaat not to mislead the public with false statistics.
