Dhaka, Dec 18 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed deep condolences over the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Manch and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, who succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in Singapore.

In a condolence message posted on the party’s verified Facebook page on Thursday, BNP said:

“We are deeply saddened by the death of ‘Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun’ Inqilab Manch spokesperson and independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Sharif Osman Hadi.”

Earlier, Dr. Abdul Ahad, a member of the neurosurgery team at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed Hadi’s death, citing information received from the Singapore General Hospital. According to the hospital authorities, Sharif Osman Hadi passed away at around 9:30 am (Bangladesh time).

The news of his death was also shared through Hadi’s verified Facebook page and the official page of Inqilab Manch, where he was described as “a great revolutionary who fought against Indian hegemony,” and referred to as a martyr.

Background of the Attack

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot at close range on December 12 while attending a public meeting in the Bijoynagar area of the capital. According to witnesses, two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire and fled the scene immediately.

Hadi sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition. After undergoing initial surgery, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital, Dhaka, and later airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment.

Medical sources revealed that the bullet entered his head from the right side and exited from the left, but fragments remained lodged in his brain, leading to severe complications.

His death has sparked renewed concern over political violence and security in the lead-up to the 13th National Parliament Election.
