Dhaka, Dec 25 (V7N)- BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman arrived in Dhaka today, marking his return to the country after more than 17 years. The aircraft carrying him landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:40 am on Thursday.
The flight departed Osmani International Airport in Sylhet shortly after 11:00 am following a one-hour stopover. Earlier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ regular commercial flight BJ-202 arrived in Sylhet at around 10:00 am on Thursday before continuing to Dhaka.
After entering Bangladesh’s airspace on Thursday morning, Tarique Rahman shared a message on social media platform Facebook, writing: “After a long 6,314 days in the sky of Bangladesh.”
To mark his homecoming, a large stage has been set up at the July 36 Expressway (300 Feet area) in Purbachal, Dhaka, where a reception has been arranged. Grassroots BNP leaders and activists from across the country, including the capital, have been gathering at the venue since morning.
The rally site and surrounding areas are resonating with slogans and chants, creating a festive atmosphere. Placards, banners, and enthusiastic supporters have turned the entire area into what many described as a “festival center.”
According to party sources, after arriving in Dhaka, Tarique Rahman will proceed to the 300 Feet area in Purbachal, where he is scheduled to deliver a speech at the reception. He will later visit Evercare Hospital to see his mother, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Tarique Rahman’s return has drawn nationwide attention and is being viewed as a significant political development.
