Dhaka, Dec 29 (V7N) — BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will contest the 13th National Parliament election from Dhaka-17 constituency, scheduled to be held on February 12.

Nomination papers on his behalf were submitted on Monday (December 29) at around 12 noon at the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner’s Office in Segunbagicha.

The nomination papers were submitted by Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Farhad Halim Doner. At the time, BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Abdus Salam and BNP Sports Affairs Secretary Aminul Haque were also present.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Andalib Rahman Partha has withdrawn from the constituency following the announcement of Tarique Rahman’s candidacy. He has decided to contest instead from Bhola-1 constituency.

It may be recalled that Andalib Rahman Partha was elected as a Member of Parliament from Bhola-1 in the 2008 national election with the support of the BNP.

According to the election schedule, scrutiny of nomination papers will continue in the coming days, followed by the finalization of candidates and allocation of electoral symbols.
