Dhaka, Jan 01 (V7N) – The leaders who submitted their nominations as alternative candidates for the three parliamentary seats of the recently deceased BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will contest the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, party leaders confirmed on Thursday.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, told reporters at the party’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, that Khaleda Zia was originally the party’s candidate for the Feni-1, Bogra-7, and Dinajpur-3 constituencies. Due to her illness, the party nominated Rafiqul Alam Majnu (Feni-1), Morshed Alam (Bogra-7), and Syed Jahangir Alam (Dinajpur-3) as alternative candidates, who have all submitted their nomination papers.
Salahuddin Ahmed added that Khaleda Zia’s nomination papers will naturally be cancelled from a legal perspective, and the papers of the alternate candidates remain valid. He emphasized that there is no legal provision to postpone or cancel the election for these constituencies.
