Dhaka, Jan 02 (V7N) – Family members of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, including granddaughter Zaima Rahman, paid their respects at their graves on Friday morning.
The family arrived at Zia Udyan in the capital at around 10:30 am on Friday (January 2). Among those present were Shamila Rahman, wife of Khaleda Zia’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, along with Zaima Rahman, Zahia Rahman, and other close family members.
They paid tribute by placing flowers on the graves, followed by recitation of the Holy Quran. The family members then offered prayers and supplications, seeking forgiveness and eternal peace for the departed souls. They remained at the grave complex for approximately 20 minutes before leaving.
Earlier in the day, the graves were opened to the general public after Fajr prayers, allowing visitors to pay their respects and offer prayers. However, due to the arrival of Zaima Rahman and the family, public entry was temporarily suspended for about an hour for security and protocol reasons.
It may be noted that Begum Khaleda Zia passed away on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Following her funeral prayers at Manik Mia Avenue on Wednesday, she was buried with state honours beside the grave of her husband, former martyred President Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan.
