Dhaka, Aug 26 (V7N): BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed his disappointment on Monday, stating that Chief Adviser Dr. Mohammad Yunus' recent address to the nation failed to provide a clear roadmap for the transition to democracy.

Speaking at a discussion, Fakhrul voiced his hope that the interim government would soon initiate dialogue with political parties to decide on the national election and necessary state reforms.

“We are still in a state of uncertainty as there is no clear direction. We had expected the Chief Adviser to outline a roadmap for moving towards democracy, but his speech did not include that,” Fakhrul remarked.

He noted that while Dr. Yunus mentioned some reforms, these are not achievable within a short period. However, Fakhrul remained optimistic, stating that he believes the situation is progressing positively for the people's benefit.

Fakhrul acknowledged that Dr. Yunus correctly pointed out that the timing of the election is a matter of political decision. “It will surely be determined politically. But to reach that decision, the government must engage in discussions with political parties and leaders.”

He expressed hope that the Chief Adviser would soon begin talks with political parties on this matter.

The discussion was organized by a faction of the Jatiya Party (Zafar) at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 9th death anniversary of its founder Kazi Zafar Ahmed.

On Sunday evening, Interim Government Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus addressed the nation, assuring that a free, fair, and participatory election would be held after completing necessary reforms in the administration, judiciary, election commission, and electoral system. He emphasized that the timing of the election is a political decision and that the people would ultimately determine how long the interim government remains in power.
