Dhaka, Feb 21 (V7N)- A fire that broke out at a sawmill in the capital’s Khilgaon area has been brought under control after a two-hour-long effort by 10 units of the fire service. The fire was contained around 9:30 PM on Friday, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Anwarul Islam Dolon, an officer of the Fire Service Headquarters’ media cell, confirmed the incident. He stated that the fire service received reports of the fire at 7:30 PM, initially dispatching two units. As the fire intensified, 10 units were deployed one by one to bring the situation under control by 9:35 PM.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain unknown. However, no casualties have been reported.
The fire, which originated in the sawmill, quickly spread to a nearby garage, setting several cars ablaze and triggering a cylinder explosion.
Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dawood Hossain stated that the fire reportedly started from Tutul's workshop near Khilgaon Taltola Market, opposite Khilgaon Model College. A total of nine shops were affected, including eight workshops and the sawmill.
During the fire, multiple explosions occurred, likely due to flammable materials stored in the workshops.
