Rajshahi, Feb 23 (V7N) – A prisoner who suffered severe burns after falling into hot water while cooking at Rajshahi Central Jail has died while receiving treatment at a hospital.

The prisoner passed away on Friday, February 21, at around 9:30 AM in the burn unit of Rajshahi Medical College (RMCH) Hospital.

The deceased prisoner, identified as Bipul Kumar (33), was serving a life sentence in a drug-related case from Naogaon District. His prison ID number was 2167/A, and he was the son of Sunil Chandra Sarkar from the Lakshmipur Bhandarpur area in the Mahadevpur police station of Naogaon. Bipul had been convicted in 2010 by Naogaon Sadar police station for a drug-related crime.

Dr. Shankar Kumar Biswas, in charge of the emergency department at RMCH, said that Bipul fell into boiling hot water while cooking on February 10 at Rajshahi Central Jail. He suffered serious burns and was rushed to RMCH for treatment. Despite receiving care at the burn unit, he succumbed to his injuries.

Dr. Biswas further mentioned that Bipul had sustained burns to 20% of his body. His body is currently at the hospital morgue, and the prison authorities will take necessary action.

Senior Jail Superintendent of Rajshahi Central Jail, Ratna Ray, confirmed that a prisoner had passed away in the hospital and assured that the authorities would take appropriate measures as per prison rules.
