Dhaka, Feb 22, (V7N) – A series of tragic road accidents claimed multiple lives across different districts in Bangladesh, including Bogura, Sirajganj, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Narayanganj, Faridpur, Manikganj, Mymensingh, Magura, and Dhaka.
In Bogura’s Dupchanchia, five passengers of a battery-powered auto rickshaw were killed when a truck collided with their vehicle on the Nagaon-Bogura regional road at around 9:00 PM Friday. The victims were Mozahar (60), Safikul Islam (45), Shahidul Islam (60), Mezbaha (32), and auto rickshaw driver Moyen Sardar (55). The accident occurred when the rickshaw’s axle broke as it entered the main road, causing the truck to crash into it.
In Dhaka, a schoolboy named Ryan Jabir (16) died in Hatirjheel after losing control of his motorcycle. Ryan was a 10th-grade student at Banshree Model High School. Additionally, an auto rickshaw driver named Rajib Howlader (35) was killed after being hit by a bus in front of Bangabhaban in Gulistan. Later that evening, an unidentified man (25) was killed in an accident on Bailey Road.
In Sirajganj’s Ullapara, two men—Rony Islam (35), the driver, and Faruk Hossain (30), a passenger—were killed when their auto rickshaw was struck by a bus on the Dhaka-Pabna highway Thursday night. The bus was traveling from Pabna to Cox's Bazar. The bus driver was detained by the police on Friday morning.
In Patuakhali’s Dashmina, two people—Tanzeela Begum (30) and auto rickshaw driver Rakib Hossain (30)—died in a collision between a trolley and an auto rickshaw in West Lakshmipur on Friday afternoon. Tanzeela was the wife of Ziaur Hossain Howlader, and Rakib was the son of Mannan Khan from the same village.
In Cumilla, a Jamayet member named Jasim Uddin (50) was killed when a bus ran over him in Syedpur, Lalmai, while returning from a party meeting. He was from the same area.
In Narayanganj’s Rupganj, a 60-year-old woman, Monowara Begum, was killed when a truck struck her while she was crossing the road.
In Faridpur’s Boalmari, a brick-laden trolley overturned, and the driver, Hamim (30), died after being crushed. He was from Mohammadpur, Magura district.
In Shibganj, Chapainawabganj, Habibur Rahman (38), a cattle trader, died when the cart he was riding lost control and overturned while heading to the market. Two others were injured in the accident on Friday afternoon.
In Magura’s Mohammadpur, a cyclist named Tobarek Mollah (48) was killed when hit by an engine-driven Nasimon in Chakulia village on Friday morning.
In Manikganj’s Ghior, Sohag (25) was killed when a truck hit him and four others on the Banijajuri Bus Stand on Friday morning. The truck crashed into a van parked by the side of the road, injuring the victims. Sohag was declared dead at the hospital.
Finally, on Mymensingh-Sherpur road, a motorcyclist named Rofikul Islam (28) died after being hit by a vehicle on Thursday night in Tarakanda Upazila.
Authorities have launched investigations into these incidents, and police are working to identify the perpetrators and provide justice for the victims.
