Dhaka, Oct 16 (V7N)— Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed invited 12 High Court Division judges for tea on Wednesday morning amid controversy surrounding their alleged misconduct. According to Supreme Court sources, the judges face accusations of corruption, irregularities, and collaboration with the Awami League government.

At the same time, the anti-discrimination student movement staged a protest outside the High Court, demanding the resignation of what they referred to as "fascist judges." Around 11:30 a.m., the students marched to the High Court in a procession, gathering at the entrance to voice their grievances.

Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, coordinators of the student movement, had announced the protest in advance, criticising the judges for serving the interests of the ruling government.

In anticipation of the demonstration, security was heightened around the High Court premises. Heavy police presence was observed at key points, including the High Court Shrine gate, with officers stationed in both uniform and plain clothes to manage the situation.

As tensions grow around allegations of judicial misconduct, today’s events highlight the increasing friction between activists and state institutions.
