Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) — The ongoing trial of the July-August genocide will proceed in the main building of the International Criminal Tribunal until November 3, according to Asif Nazrul, the legal adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government. The announcement was made on Wednesday morning during Nazrul’s visit to inspect the renovation work at the tribunal’s premises.

Nazrul refrained from answering questions from reporters regarding his meeting with the Chief Justice and issues related to the presidency, which had taken place the previous day. He was accompanied by Adilur Rahman Khan, the Housing and Public Works Adviser, as they toured the renovation site.

During the visit, Advocate Tajul Islam, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal, also provided an update on the legal proceedings. He stated that arrest warrants for 46 individuals, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, have already been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

On October 17, the tribunal issued arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina and several high-profile political figures, including cabinet members Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Haque, and Dipu Moni, as well as Sheikh Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy. The charges stem from allegations of genocide and crimes against humanity committed during the months of July and August. Other notable individuals named in the case include Sheikh Rehana, Sheikh Salim, and former ministers and senior police officers.

The tribunal’s move marks a significant development in the prosecution of alleged war crimes, and the upcoming trial sessions are expected to draw heightened attention both domestically and internationally.
