Dhaka, Oct 29 (V7N)– During a briefing following a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury asserted that Bangladesh's human rights situation is superior to that of any other country in the world.
The briefing took place on Tuesday at noon, where Chowdhury addressed inquiries from the UN human rights chief regarding ongoing reforms in the country. He noted that Turk expressed interest in understanding the measures being implemented to safeguard the security of victims and witnesses, to which the adviser assured that the government is committed to these efforts.
In addition, Chowdhury mentioned that the UN has requested the government to facilitate the verification process for personnel selected for UN peacekeeping missions. He confirmed that the UN Human Rights Commission is currently conducting fact-finding missions, emphasizing that the Bangladeshi government will provide full support to these initiatives.
The adviser's statements come amid ongoing discussions about human rights and accountability within Bangladesh, as the government seeks to portray a positive image of its human rights record on the international stage.
