Dhaka, Nov 12 (V7N)- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has invited Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus to visit Turkiye, expressing strong support for Bangladesh’s ambitions to implement deep reforms and pursue prosperity. The invitation came during a meeting between Prof. Yunus and President Erdogan, along with Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan, at the COP29 summit in Baku on Tuesday.
Prof. Yunus reciprocated by inviting the Turkish leaders to visit Bangladesh, reinforcing ties between the two nations. The chief adviser, who attended the opening of the COP29 global climate summit, met with at least 20 world leaders and heads of international organizations, advocating for Bangladesh’s climate and reform initiatives.
During the summit, Prof. Yunus also met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expressing gratitude for the recent release of 57 Bangladeshi nationals who had been detained for participating in solidarity protests. Additionally, he held discussions with prominent leaders, including Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Nepali President Ramchandra Paudel.
A strong advocate for regional cooperation, Prof. Yunus reiterated his commitment to reviving the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as a cornerstone of his foreign policy, seeking to strengthen ties among South Asia’s eight member countries.
Other dignitaries Yunus met included the Prime Ministers of Belgium and Bosnia Herzegovina, Presidents of Ghana and Rwanda, Prime Minister of Albania, President of Montenegro, Prime Minister of Barbados, Vice Presidents of Brazil and Iran, the President of FIFA, and the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
