Dhaka, Dec 09 (V7N)- Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri, during his visit to Dhaka, reaffirmed India's commitment to fostering a constructive and positive relationship with Bangladesh. He expressed India’s readiness to work closely with the interim government for the welfare of the people of both nations.

Mishri made these remarks following a courtesy call on Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain on Monday afternoon. Earlier in the day, he arrived in Dhaka on a special flight of the Indian Air Force, marking the first high-level visit from India since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, 2024.

Upon his arrival, Mishri participated in discussions with Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin before meeting with the advisor.

“We had a very open, constructive discussion,” Mishri said. “India seeks a positive, mutually beneficial relationship with Bangladesh, one centered on the welfare of the people. This has been and will continue to be a people-centric partnership.”

He reiterated that the cooperation between the two nations should persist, highlighting the shared interests of their citizens. “I have conveyed India's willingness to engage closely with Bangladesh’s interim government while addressing recent developments and ongoing issues,” he added.

During the meetings, Mishri also expressed concerns over the security and welfare of minorities in Bangladesh. Discussions included recent incidents involving attacks on cultural, religious, and diplomatic properties, underscoring the need for enhanced collaboration to address such challenges.

The visit underscores India’s proactive engagement with Bangladesh amidst changing political dynamics, emphasizing shared priorities for regional stability and development.
