Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized the importance of ensuring justice for all citizens and highlighted various initiatives taken by her government to uphold the principles of democracy and independence of the judiciary. Speaking at the closing session of the two-day International Conference on "South Asian Constitutional Courts in the Twenty-First Century: Lessons from Bangladesh and India," held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC), she underscored the significance of an independent judiciary, a strong parliament, and an efficient administration in the development of any country.
PM Hasina noted that her government has worked towards achieving a completely independent judiciary, as envisioned by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She highlighted measures such as separating the judiciary from the administration and allocating a separate budget for its financial autonomy. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of an independent Election Commission (EC) and highlighted the government's efforts to ensure its autonomy and adequate funding.
The Prime Minister reiterated her commitment to ensuring justice for the people of Bangladesh, stressing that no citizen should be subjected to injustice. She outlined various initiatives undertaken by her government to implement different programs aimed at providing justice to the people and safeguarding their rights.
In line with the government's vision to transform Bangladesh into a Smart Country by 2041, PM Hasina expressed her desire for a smart judiciary and highlighted the inclusion of an article in the Constitution to address illegal power grabbing as a punishable offense, aimed at protecting the democratic rights of the people.
Furthermore, she expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice of Bangladesh for his initiatives to modernize the judiciary and thanked the Higher Court for its landmark verdicts, which contributed to the socioeconomic advancement and stability of the country.
PM Hasina concluded by reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to strengthening democracy and achieving the goals of a developed and prosperous Golden Bangladesh by 2041, in line with the ideals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq and Indian Chief Justice Dr. Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud also spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of judicial independence and legal reforms.
