Dhaka, Jan 04 (V7N)— Bangladesh has yet to receive a formal response from India regarding the deportation of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain said on Saturday.

Speaking at the annual general meeting of the Belab Thana Samity in Purbachal, Dhaka, Hossain noted that the government is awaiting a reply from Delhi after sending a diplomatic note on December 23 requesting Sheikh Hasina's return for trial purposes.

Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted from power on August 5 following a mass uprising, has been residing in India since that day. Multiple charges, including murder and genocide, have been filed against her in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed the issue during a weekly briefing on Friday. He stated, “India has nothing new to say at this time regarding Dhaka's request to return Sheikh Hasina.”

Commenting on Jaiswal's remarks, Towhid Hossain said, "This government has ensured that anyone can speak without fear. It is expected that the government will continue this trend in the future as well."

The issue of Sheikh Hasina's deportation remains a critical point of diplomatic dialogue between Dhaka and Delhi, with no immediate resolution in sight.
