Davos, Jan 23 (V7N) — FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed his intention to visit Bangladesh in the next two months and extended hope for increased funding for the country’s women’s football team.

Infantino made these remarks during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos. He praised Yunus’s innovative idea of making sports carbon neutral and reiterated FIFA’s commitment to the development of football in South Asia.

During the discussion, Dr. Yunus sought FIFA’s assistance in building dormitories and other infrastructure for female footballers in Bangladesh. In response, Infantino assured support, stating that FIFA is eager to fund the development of women’s football in Bangladesh.

Infantino also highlighted FIFA’s broader support for women’s football in Saudi Arabia, which would benefit Bangladeshi expatriates living in the kingdom. He expressed regret over his inability to visit Bangladesh during the ongoing Youth Festival despite being invited but confirmed his plans to visit soon.

The meeting was attended by Bangladesh Government's SDG Coordinator Lamia Morshed and Bangladesh Ambassador to Geneva Tarek Ariful Islam, among others.

Infantino’s anticipated visit is expected to bolster the development of football infrastructure in Bangladesh, especially for women, and strengthen FIFA’s engagement with South Asia.
