Dhaka, Mar 07 (V7N) –Former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique has been placed on life support, with his condition reported to be "critical" by family members.

His younger brother, Shakrin Siddique, said on Thursday evening that he suddenly collapsed while standing and talking at Dhaka Club at approximately 2:40pm.

Shakrin added that Arefin had been taken to Ibrahim Cardiac. “After initial treatment, he was transferred to the neuro ICU. A short while ago, he was placed on ventilation.”

His family requested prayers for his recovery.

In 2009, AAMS Arefin Siddique was appointed as the 27th VC of Dhaka University. 

After completing his tenure in 2017, he returned as a professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. 

He retired from university teaching in June 2020.
