Rangamati, Mar 08 (V7N) - Rangamati District BNP is undertaking a stringent effort to restore party discipline, expelling approximately 40 leaders and activists since September 2024. The party's actions are aimed at addressing a range of disciplinary breaches, including illegal activities and internal conflicts, across various regions within the district, with Baghaichhari seeing the highest number of expulsions. The district leadership emphasizes its commitment to maintaining order and organization within the party, particularly in preparation for future political endeavors.

General Secretary Advocate Mamunur Rashid Mamun highlighted that these expulsions are in line with central directives and a zero-tolerance policy against those disrupting party unity. Investigation committees have been established to probe allegations ranging from illegal cigarette smuggling and extortion to encroachment and internal disputes. The expulsion orders, such as those issued on March 7th against leaders from Kaukhali and Baghaichhari, detail specific charges of engaging in immoral activities, creating chaos, and violating party policies.

The Kaukhali expulsion orders, for instance, specifically cited the involvement of three individuals in illegal cigarette smuggling, leading to their arrest by joint forces. These individuals were also accused of using their party positions for personal gain and disrupting party cohesion. Similarly, the Baghaichhari expulsions were based on charges of violating internal order and engaging in activities detrimental to the party's reputation. The district BNP leadership has also directed the cessation of all organizational activities of the Sramik Dal in Baghaichhari without district approval.

The expelled members, such as Khorshed George, have contested the decisions, alleging that they were not given a fair opportunity to defend themselves and that the expulsions stem from internal conflicts within the party leadership. However, the district BNP president, Dipan Talukder, reiterated that the party is committed to a zero-tolerance policy against any misdeeds, including extortion and terrorism, and that investigations are underway to identify any leaders sheltering such individuals.

Rangamati District BNP's actions reflect a broader effort to cleanse the party of elements deemed detrimental to its integrity and public image. The leadership's decisive measures underscore their determination to enforce discipline and ensure that all party activities align with the principles and interests of the people.
