Dhaka, Mar 04 (V7N) – Despite concerns over edible oil supply, the availability of other essential goods during Ramadan remains stable, according to retired Brigadier General Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor on Shipping and Labor and Employment.

Speaking at a check handover ceremony at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Dr. Hossain assured that sufficient daily necessities have been imported, ensuring no supply shortage for Ramadan. However, he acknowledged some challenges in the edible oil market.

The advisor also warned that importers delaying the clearance of goods from ports will face a three-fold fine, reinforcing the government’s commitment to stabilizing the market during the holy month.

The event also included the distribution of financial aid to the families of six workers who lost their lives in the MV Al-Bakhera sinking incident in the Meghna River, Chandpur Haimchar, last December. Each family received:

  • Tk 2 lakh from the Workers' Welfare Foundation
  • Tk 3 lakh from the importing company Noapara Group

The government continues to monitor market conditions to ensure affordability and prevent supply disruptions during Ramadan.
