Dhaka, Mar 09 (V7N) – Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul has announced stricter measures for handling rape cases, including a 90-day trial period and a 15-day limit for investigations. He also declared that rape would be considered a non-bailable crime.
Speaking at a press conference at the Law Ministry on Sunday, Nazrul stated that a dedicated monitoring cell would be established within the ministry to ensure rape cases are processed without unnecessary delays.
Addressing the recent rape case of a child in Magura, Nazrul expressed deep concern, confirming that four individuals have been arrested. “The accused in this case will not receive any relief. They will be brought to justice as soon as possible,” he assured.
To tackle rising cases of sexual harassment, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the police will introduce a dedicated hotline. Victims will be able to file complaints at any time, with a separate cell in the Home Ministry monitoring reported incidents.
Nazrul also addressed concerns over the recent harassment of a Dhaka University student, promising an inquiry into whether the case was withdrawn under pressure. He criticized the judicial process that led to the accused securing bail on the same day the case was withdrawn.
These new measures aim to strengthen the legal response to sexual crimes and ensure justice is served swiftly.
