PATHARGHATA, Bangladesh — Patharghata Upazila marked International Women's Day on Friday (March 8th) with rallies and discussions emphasizing the critical need for women's safety and increased investment in their development.
The events, held at Ghutabacha Government Primary School, were organized by the non-governmental development organization CCDB and the Upazila Gender Networking Team. Over two hundred women participated in the events, which featured slogans such as, "Ensure the safety of women, build a developed country," and "Increase investment in the safety of women, women's development means the development of the nation."
The discussion meeting, chaired by Ruby Begum, President of the Gender Networking Group, and moderated by Mariam Akhter, featured speeches from a range of local figures, including Ayub Ali, Subrata Kumar Mistry, Malay Kanti Sikder, Bellal Hossain, Biplob Mridha, Imam Hossain, Geeta Rani, Sujaya Rani, Abhijit Majumder, and Shafiqul Islam Khokon.
Speakers highlighted the importance of investing in women to combat inequality and poverty, protect human rights, and drive national development. They emphasized that women's development is integral to the nation's progress.
